Effect of Powder Granularity on Properties of WC-12Co Coating Sprayed by HVOF

Abstract: Three kinds of WC-12Co coatings with different powder granularity were thermally sprayed via high velocity oxy-fuel(HVOF) on the substrate of 45 steel. The substructure and properties were analyzed by SEM, XRD, micro-hardness tester and so on. The effects of powder granularity on properties of WC-12Co coatings were studied. The results indicate that along with the decrease of particles size in powders, the density and microhardness of coating increase obviously. The decomposition of WC is increased. There is a little of W2C and Co6W6C. The properties of WC-12Co coatings show well with mutimodal WC-12Co powders.
