Influence of Heat Treatment on Microstructure and Properties of New High-chromium Iron

Abstract: The influences of chemical composition and heat treatment process on hardness and impact toughness of a new high-chromium iron were investigated. The morphology and phase structure of samples after different heat treatment processes were characterized by metallographic microscopic analysis, XRD and SEM. The results show that quenching(950℃) and tempering(300℃) are the optimum process parameters, and abundant dispersed carbides precipitate and the hardness of carbides reaches 40 HRC-45 HRC, impact toughness reaches 4 J/cm2-7 J/cm2. The carbides with the structure of sorbite, ferrite, abundant dispersed carbides and eutectic carbides can meet the need about processing and using, which is promised to be used on waste incineration furnace component replacing those imported materials.
