Abstract: The existence of the vertical arch and reasonable pile spacing between piles were put forward based on the analysis of the soil arch effect of slope support from cantilever anti-slide pile. It is concluded according to the vertical force characteristic of arch that the vertical arch has a shape of catenary. Through the force balance of the arch foot it is concluded that the vertical arch section meets the Moore Coulomb theorem and there is a maximum pile spacing, and it quantitatively illustrates that the vertical arch span increases with the cohesive force and angle of internal friction of soil, the change of the arch height is associated with clear distance between pile and decreases with the increase of pile soil load. Finally, the calculation formula is verified by an engineering example,it is concluded that the biggest pile spacing complies with that in engineering practice.
