Keyword:  Latin inscriptionsworld of silk;
Abstract: The concept of the "Silk Road" was proposed by German scholar Richthofen in 1877 and was adopted ever since by many people without trying to prove it. After reviewing Latin inscriptions, the author discovers nine inscriptions that discuss silk, its prices, and dealers. These inscriptions confirm the existence of silk markets in the Roman Empire and provide important material evidence for the "Silk Road".
