Application of a New Fatigue Model to Fatigue Life Estimation

Abstract: In view of the problem that the Miner′s rule may result in the unreliable results of fatigue life estimation due to omission of the load sequential effect when used for the life estimation,the new damage indicator Dibased on the sequential law is introduced and a new fatigue model is proposed.In the new fatigue model,the loading history is taken into account and the damage caused by the numbers of cycling niat the level of i are dependent on the load applied previously.To have a good understanding of the effect of the life estimation,using the new fatigue model,2Whler curve models are investigated and the prediction results of the new fatigue model under different loading conditions,the literature data,prediction results of the Miner′s rule and experimental results are compared and analyzed.The results of the comparison and analysis reveal that the prediction results of the new fatigue model,the experimental results and literature data are well accordant while the prediction results of the Miner′s rule are slightly great.The application of the new fatigue model based on the sequential law can obtain more accurate fatigue life and therefore can better guide the design of the structures.
