Design of Steel Floating Tanks for Zhanghu Reservoir Area Bridge in Nanping

Abstract: In compliance with the construction conditions of the Zhanghu Reservoir Area Bridge in Nanping,the steel floating tanks for assembling of the floating working platform for construction of the deepwater pile foundations of the bridge were designed.Based on the design requirements and the relevant technical standards,2types of the design schemes for the floating tanks were proposed,i.e.the scheme of the square steels of 450mm rib spacing and the scheme of the L-shape angle steels of 500mm rib spacing were to be respectively adopted for the middle and bottom keels,truss,top plate cross beams and side plate ribs of a floating tank.The software MIDAS Civil was used to establish the finite element models for the two schemes and the stress and displacement deformation of the beam elements and plate elements of the models under the 4load cases were compared and analyzed.The results of the calculation and analysis indicate that under the 4load cases,the static force deformation of the two schemes is little,however, the maximum displacement and stress values differ greatly.The maximum stress values of the various components of the floating tanks are far less than the yield strength of the Q235Bsteel and the stress distribution of the components of the scheme of the L-shape angle steels is more uniform than that of the scheme of the square steels.As a result,it is determined that the scheme of the L-shape angle steels should be adpoted for the floating tanks.The field testing and application of the floating tanks of the bridge prove that the tanks have good safety and practicability and the global performance of the tanks is good.
