Study on a multiple-effect solar desalination system based on humidification-dehumidification process

Abstract: A novel multiple-effect solar desalination unit is presented based on humidification-dehumidification(HDD) process.It is an innovative technology due to its flexibility,simplified operation,low maintenance,low capital cost and ability to be combined with renewable energy sources.Design principle and structure of this system are given.The effect of operating parameters,such as heating temperature and seawater flow rate,on the system performance is studied.The experimental results indicate that yield of the system increases with increase of water flow rate and operating temperature,the unit yield can reach 58.14 kg/h at a water flow rate of 906 kg/h.The research proves that the multiple-effect HDD has much room to be improved.
