Study on voltage and flicker of wind turbines

Abstract: When a wind turbine connects to a MV-network,which has other variable loads that may cause significant voltage fluctuations at the wind turbines terminals,the voltage fluctuations caused by the wind turbines depend on the grid characteristics.In order to achieve real test results which are independent of the grid conditions at the test site,the IEC 61400-21 specifies a method to calculate flicker emission by use of a fictitious grid.On the basis of studies of the standard method in IEC61400,flicker emission of direct-drive permanent magnet wind turbine and doubly fed induction wind turbine are calculated respectively,impact factors of wind turbines flicker emission are analyzed.Calculated flicker emission of fictitious grid is compared with ideal voltage conditions measurement flicker emission,the results validate effectiveness of the fictitious grid method for flicker emission test.
