Study on the optimization design of duct with grid of waterjet propulsion

Abstract: A type of domestic waterjet boat did not reach the design speed in the first sea tial. The flow field of “ship+pump+duct+grid” of this boat was calculated by CFD method, and then the defects of the duct was analyzed. After the optimization of the duct, grid, outlet diameter and ramp curve, the new system of the “ship+pump+duct+grid” was calculated and compared with the original system. The research result in-dicates that the propulsion performance of the improved duct, such as ship speed and propulsion efficiency, is increased, which makes the new waterjet propulsion system with 8 grids exceed the design ship speed. The result proves that the waterjet duct with grid has a great effect on the propulsion performance of ma-rine waterjet.
