Abstract: Under the tidal wave of marketization, the world class universities are taking knowledge production and public relationship as the missions and strategy of development, ignoring the basic function of educating talents. If we favour research more than teaching, innovation and excellence will turn to be specious. In this paper we analyze the evolution and development of MOOCs. We believe that although MOOCs would not overthrow the traditional university,it would definitely turn out to be an opportunity to change the phenomenon of "research- teaching unbalance". To cope with the challenge of MOOCs,university should reconstruct the concept of"excellence",and help faculty to establish the comprehensive understanding of"academic duties". Based on the analysis, universities are also suggested to adjust the resource allocation policy, reform the evaluation system, promote faculty professional development, and put special emphasis on pedagogy reforms.
