Composition analysis of the blind area in tube ultrasonic detection of laminar imperfections

Abstract: Ultrasonic detection of laminar imperfections of tube is one of the most important parts of product quality control. Some area,however,cannot be detected,also known as "blind area ". Acknowledge of blind area’s composition and reason in the ultrasonic laminar detection is the basic condition to determine correct detection method and to control product quality. By observing and analyzing the blind area in the tube ultrasonic detection of laminar imperfections,this article analyses in detail the apparition of blind area and actual situations of typical alloy tube,the size of blind area,its relationship to the tube wall thickness. It points out that most blind area are situated in the middle and outer tube wall and its proportion reduces while the tube wall thickness increases.
