Abstract: A design scheme should be picked from several ship parameters in conceptual design of ships. The model of ship optimization based on empirical formula, speed,maneuverability performance,cost are established. Then, particle swarm multiobjective optimization using the maximin fitness function, proposed by Li, is used to perform conceptual design of a containership. The strengths and weaknesses of subjective weight and objective weight are analyzed and a combination weighing method is proposed. A bulk carrier example shows that the maximinPSO can get a evenly distributed pareto front. Meanwhile, the order made by combination weighting mehod is reasonable.
