Test and analysis on motion responses of crane-system with a floating base in regular waves

Abstract: To test different influences of the boom angle, the wave-length, the wave-height and the weight on the motion responses of the system, a model of the system was established, a series of time history curves of roll and pitch were obtained through relevant tests on the model system. The results show that the boom angle, the wave-length, the wave-height and the weight all have an influence on the roll of crane-system with a floating base. In general, making the plane of boom and weight in the longitudinal section of the float-ing base parallel to the wave direction (boom angle is 90°), wave and weight can have great influence on the pitch of the system and have little influence on the roll of the system, the system is stable; making the plane of boom and weight in the crossing section of the floating base parallel to the wave direction (boom angle is 0° or 180°), wave and weight can have little influence on the pitch of the system and have great in-fluence on the roll of the system, the system is unstable. When the crane-system with a floating base is op-erating, synthetic influences of the boom angle and the wave angle on the motions of the system should be con-trolled to improve the stability and the security of crane-system with a floating base.
