Parametric rolling analysis in oblique seas

Abstract: When a ship sails in oblique seas, parametric rolling and the forced rolling by waves will happen at the same time, which makes the rolling angle increase fast, named as parametrically excited ship rolling. A solution to coupling ship motion equations of 3 degrees of freedom is made based on a new method to calculate restoring forces considering wave surface and ship motion. A conclusion is obtained that ship mo-tion in oblique sea shows strong nonlinearity and it is necessary to consider the variation of restoring force due to wave surface and ship motion.
