Abstract: The reconfiguration of the radiation pattern of the surface wave excited plasma antenna was modeled on the basisof Boltzmann equation and antenna theory to fully understand the dispersion relation of the plasma.The impactof the plasma density on the wave vectorand the dependence of the radiation pattern on the refractive indexwere simulated. The dedicated testplat form was setup for the plasma antenna excited by monopole surface wave,and the radiation pattern of plasma antenna was evaluated in antenna rotating method.The simulated and experimental results show that the newly developed model works ratherwell in evaluating the reconfiguration characteristics of the plasma antenna,and the plasma antenna excited by monopole surface wave is capable of realizing the dynamic reconfiguration of radiation pattern under the control of an external excitation source.
