Unsteady Seepage Analysis of Embankment Under Water Level Fluctuation

Abstract: The paper analyzed the unsteady seepage of Houzhang embankment by using the quasi-3D finite element numerical simulation method compared the characteristic of seepage field during the flooding period. The calculation results show that in the flood level fluctuation process,the flood has little influence to the free surface of the two banks. The area which the flood mainly influences is located in the embankment inside. The maximum seepage slope of water attaining surface increases with water level rising and gradually decreases with the drop of water level decrease. The maximum seepage slope of water attaining surface during the flood level lifting is higher than that during the flood level dropping at the same wa-ter level. At the beginning of the flood dropping,the maximum seepage slopes of water attaining surface of the two banks are higher than permissive permeability gradient and it cannot meet the requirements of stability. It suggests taking some effective reinforcement measures should be taken.
