A typical medium range airliner was considered as a baseline aircraft. A computer program based on the piecewise analytic model was developed to estimate fuel burn for the given flight profile. The impact of lift-to-drag ratio, specific fuel consumption and operational empty mass on fuel burn was presented by use of the computer program. The requirements of the lift-to-drag ratio, specific fuel consumption and operational empty mass for the future advanced airliner were investigated. The results can serve as a useful guidance for determination of the lift-to-drag ratio, specific fuel consumption and operational empty mass in future airliner design.
