Abstract: The existing related literatures are analyzed based on the current research progress of soil moisture remote sensing predicting .According to the differences of the spectrum bands used with MODIS data , the research status quo of thermal infrared temperature method , vegetation index method based on nir-red bands , and temperature/vegetation in-dex method which combines the upper two methods are discussed respectively .The advantages and disadvantages of each method in terms of accuracy , fit area and real time are also discussed .Then we believe that thermal inertia method in bare or low vegetation-covered area ,temperature/vegetation method in vegetation covered area can provide higher preci-sion .On that basis , this paper proposes the development tendency of soil moisture monitoring based on MODIS data in fu -ture , the main measure to improve the precision is multi-sources remote sensing technology .Therefore , MODIS data com-bined with GIS and high spectrum remote sensing data would be the emphasis of future research .
