Abstract: Coal gas dynamics is a frontier geoscience that studies specially the law of gas flow and distribution within coal seam or gas—logged strata. Applying the new view of gas geology, the author has expounded the mechanism for methane gas flow and the pressure distribution in coal seam. A new dynamic model for gas flow in coal has systematically been set up and developed. The new theory applying in prevention of gas in collieries has been explored and, some fundamental theoritical advance in coal gas dynamics have been acheived as well. Based on the measured parameters of coal gas dynamics in situ, five kinds of the dynamic models of gas flow in coal seam have been simulated numerically by computers. The results of the comparison revealed that both the new linear and nonlinear theories for coal gas dynamics are closer to the actual situatuon than other three existing theories. Then, the new analytic models for gas flow in coal seam have been presented in order to predict the variation law for methane gas and to exploit the resources of gas in both coal seam and gas —logged strata.
