Abstract: A new frequency optimization control method for the photovoltaic (PV)/diesel hybrid microgrid was proposed based on the disturbance observer. The disturbance observer was constructed to estimate the fluctuating load value in the microgrid. The PV system was tuned by maximum power point tracking (MPPT) control, and the sliding mode compensation controller was designed based on the estimated load value and the variation of microgrid frequency to tune the power of diesel generator system. The simulation results prove that the proposed optimization control method can assure the maximum power output of PV system, improve the utilization efficiency of PV energy, and reduce the frequency deviation induced by the load changes and the PV power fluctuation, and the energy storage device hardware investment are reduced by using the control method in the microgrid large-scale construction.
