Abstract: Objective To study the clinical features of senile degenerative cardiac valvular disease in the elderly. Methods Eightythree patients with retrograde valvular disease were divided into two groups acc ording to calcification of mitral valve, and that were compared with clinical data. Results Among 83 patients with retrograde valvular disease, the a ortic valve were involved in 62 cases(74.69%),the bicuspid valve were involved in 50 cases(60.24%),and the tricuspid valve were involved in 2 cases(2.41%).The apopsychia, myocardial infarction, cardiac failure and cardiogenic sudden death in patients with retrograde valvular disease were significantly m ore than that in control group(P<0.05 or P<0.01),and the involvement of the sinuatrial node was m ore than that in control group(P<0.01).Conclusion The degenerative valvular disease in elderly mainly involved in the a ortic valve.Calcification of mitral valve could lead to myocardial infarction, heart failure, syncope and sudden death.
