Abstract: Analyzing the low overall aerodynamic performance of the traditional H-type Darrieus wind turbine,a new lift-type vertical axis wind turbine with guide vanes installed at minimal angle of attack was proposed to improve poor aerodynamic performance of wind turbine.The unsteady RNG turbulence model and sliding mesh were applied to simulate aerodynamic flow field of VAWT in two dimensions.The influence of the guide vane at the 0 ° azimuth angle on pressure coefficient and the aerodynamic flow field around the blades,as well as on the torque characteristics of rotor,was compared and analyzed.Results indicated that the guide vane effectively improves negative pressure difference of blade surface,to the extent that the differential pressure coefficient and the torque of the turbine were increased by 56.2% and 25.4%,respectively.The addition of guide vanes improves the overall aerodynamic performance of a wind turbine validly.
