Abstract: Objective: To investigate the feasibility through the right vertical infraaxillary small incision on congenital heart disease(CHD) in patients undergoing open heart surgery. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data of 26 patients with CHD through the right vertical infraaxillary small incision and compared with a traditional median sternotomy incision surgery in same period. Results: All patients in two groups were successfully without severe complications. The extracorporal circulation time, aortic crossclamp time, operative time, and postoperative ventilation time between the two groups showed no significant difference(P > 0.05).There was significant reduced in postoperative pleural drainage, postoperative pain scores, and length of hospital stay when compared with the sternotomy group, the difference was statistically significant(P < 0.05) in both groups. Conclusions: The right vertical infraaxillary small incision on treatment of CHD appears to be safe, reliable, minimally invasive, less bleeding, and faster postoperative recovery. It is specially suitable for infants and young children as well as young female patients.
