Study on the Design of Low-temperature Infrared Decoy and Its Combustion Properties

Abstract: Based on the basic formula of infrared decoy with Mg and PTFE, red phosphorus and strontium sulfate being taken as oxidant and flammable, several different formulas of infrared decoy were designed, and its performance was tested by differential thermal analyzer, infrared thermometer and infrared radiometer. The results indicate that the formulas of red phosphorus and strontium sulfate reduce the decomposition temperature of the reaction and the ending temperature, and the reducing effect of the red phosphorus is more obvious than strontium sulfate. The highest combustion temperature and the maximum radiant intensity of the basic formula were 1013.7℃ and 0.0023 W/sr. The radiation intensity with the formula of red phosphorus was enhanced effectively. With the increase of the mass fraction of the component replacement, the highest combustion temperature decreased gradually. The mass fraction being 20%, the highest combustion temperature and the maximum radiation intensity of the formula red phosphorus were 427.7℃ and 0.1522 W/sr, with stability decreased and combustion discontinued. The formula strontium sulfate was 818.6℃, with radiant intensity changed relatively little and combustion process stable.
