Abstract:  The CBM resources are abundant in the eastern sector of Pingdingshan mining area. From aspects of tectonic setting, coal seam extending characteristics, coal rank, coal reservoir physical property and groundwater dynamic condition, analyzed coal seam II 1 methane content and its controlling factors. Combined with drainage pressure, ground stress, coal mass structure etc, discussed CBM ex-ploitation potential in the area. The result has shown that the coal seams have high methane content in the area with average 14.2m3/t, total resource 20.687 billion m3, resource abundance is 70 million m3/km2;coal mass structure relatively integrated;coal reservoir per-meability 0.04~1.00m/d;high reservoir pressure and low ground stress gradient. Two favorable blocks in east and west parts have been optimized after comprehensive analysis, while the No.1 block extending from the Thirteenth coalmine-Shoushan No.1 mine shaft-Tenth coalmine-deep part of First coalmine is the preferred block for CBM exploitation.
