Abstract: Objective To investigate the expression of p27 protein and cyclinD1 protein in human renal cell carcinoma and in normal kidney cortex tissue, and to explore the correlation of these proteins expression with biologic behavior of tumors. Methods p27 and cyclin D1 expression were studied in formalin-fixed,paraffin-embedded sections of renal cell carcinoma and in normal kidney cortex tissue by means of a specific and sensitive immunohistochemical S-P assay. Results The positive rates of p27kipl protein and cyclin D1 protein in renal cell carcinoma were significantly higher than the positive rates in normal kidney cortex tissues (P<0.01),and p27kipl and cyclin D1 were concurrently expressed in RCC.There was an inverse relationship between the expression rate of p27kipl,cyclin D1 and the histological tumor grades (P<0.01). Conclusions p27kipl and cyclin D1 expression rates are negatively correlated with the malignant degree of RCC,indicating that p27kipl and cyclin D1 might be an useful prognostic marker in renal cell carcinoma.
