Abstract: <正> A There are 14 million head of yak in China; this is about 90% of the world’s Yak Population. In Tibet, Qinghai and Sichuan, the number of yak in each province is more than 3 million head. The remaining yak are distributed in 4 provinces, ie. Gansu, Xinjiang. Yunnan and Inner Mongolia.B. Improvement of the yak is an urgent necessity and is also something within our redch.C. There are 3 forms of the pure breeding, ie. primary, Semi-control and control, Through breed controling for 5 years,the milkyield was increased 12.1 percentage points and the slaughtering age was lowered from4.5 to 3.5 years;the investment of the distant hybridization is higher but the officiency is fast. The milk yield of F1 (Holstein M x Yak F) was 200% more than purebred yak. The meat performance of F1(Hereford M x Yak F)was 98% more than purebred. The F1 cows could milk yearlong with stall feeding and supplementary feeding in winters and springs. The average milk yield was 1,004.3kg If F1 cows were moved from plateau to agricultural plain area,the milk yield would be 1382.5 kg. Environmental improvement most fully develops the crossbred’s hereditary potentiality and gradually improves their reproductivity.
