Abstract: Mathematical model and control design for voltage-sourced STATCOMis discussed on three levels of circuit, device and system. A robust direct adaptive control scheme is proposed at device level to attack the problem of tracking the reference input without knowing the critical parameter-equivalent resistance. Strictly positive realness of the original system is evaluated and parameters for control designing are systematically selected. Input/output disturbances are taken into account to achieve robust control. Digital simulation validates the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme and its obvious advantage over PI controller in tracking control performance and robustness to unmodeled uncertainties and measurement noises.
