Abstract: A survey of the susceptibility of larvae Culex fatigans Wied. to DDT and BHC insome districts of China was carried out. The larvae were obtained either from eggscollected in the field or from eggs laid in the laboratory by fully engorged wild females.The test methods used were essentially those described by Brown. Third instar larvaereared under standardized conditions were used for these tests. The LC_(50) values of larvae obtained from surveyed districts were compared withthe materials collected from the rural regions in which the insecticides were not systema-tically used for the control of mosquitoes. The authors have found that, in the years of1960 and 1961, the larvae of Fatshan, Shiukuan and Canton of Kwantung Province,Nanning of Kwangsi Autonomous Region, Hangchow of Chekiang Province were resistantto DDT and those of Fatshan, Shiukuan and Canton were resistant to BHC as well asDDT. But in the summer of 1963, we found that the degrees of resistance had declinedin Canton, Fatshan, Nanning and Hangchow. The survey of 1963 also showed that, thelarvae of Chungshan and Nanhai of Kwantung Province were resistant to DDT andthose of Nanhai was resistant to BHC as well as DDT.
