Abstract: This paper deals wish the methods for calculating the force and energy in rotating forging processes.Two accurate formulae have been derived for calculating the contact area rate in Cartesian system and the polar system,i.e. λ=1/π[4/3Q~2(1/Q-1)~(3/2)+cos~(-1)(1-2θ)-θ(1-θ)(1/Q-1)~(1/2) λ-1/(2π)[α+(1+2Q)1/3sinα in which Q=(s/(2Rtgr))~(1/2),α=cos~(-1)(1-2Q) and the abbreviated formula may be giveu as λ=0.4Q~(1/2)+0.14Q Formulae for calculating the force on workpieces with varions relative thickness have been suggested as follows: for thin workpieces when plastic hinger exists P_T=n_Vn_HπR~2λ[1+0.414e~(-3.5Q)+(mR)/h(0.24Q+0.141)]×2K and for thick workpieces P_T=n_Vn_HπR~2λ[1+0.414e~(-3.5Q)+m(0.24Q+0.141)]×2K Comparison of rotating and common forgins was made and why rotating for- ging saves force was theoretically discussed.
