Abstract: We have recently reported that concentration of plasma FFA was markedlydecreased in male rabbits after the intra-cerebroventricular infusion of glucagon.In this study the effects of injection of glucagon were investigated in the same siteon serum total cholesterol (TC) and triglyceride (TG) in rabbits. The resultswere as follows: 1. No significant change of serum TC was observed after intra-cerebroventri-cular administration of glucagon. 2. A dose-dependent decrease in the concentration of serum TG was producedwhen glucagon was infused intra-cerebroventricularly. The serum TG levelreached a minimal value at 75 min after injection, and then returned to normalgradually. 3. The above mentioned effect of glucagon on the serum TG level was notabolished by atropine injected subcutaneusly or propranolol injected intravenously,but abolished by intravenous injection of phentolamine. It is suggested from these results that glucagon in the brain might participatein the regulation of fat metabolism and this action might be produced through theadrenergic α-receptors.
