Abstract: In 14 anesthetized, open-chest dogs, we studied the effect of electrical stimula-tion of the left stellate ganglion (LSGS) and intracoronary infusion of norepine-phrine (NE)on segmental coronary arterial resistance in the beating and fibrillatingheart. Adrenergic β_1-receptor of the heart was blocked by intracoronary infusionof practolol (2.5mg). The circumflex coronary artery was pump-perfused at con-stant flow. The perfusion pressure and distal arterial pressure of the circumflexbranch were measured. Either in the beating heart or in the fibriliating heart,both LSGS and NE caused an increase in myocardial small coronary arterial resi-stance and total coronary arterial resistance, while epicardial large coronaryarterial resistance did not change markedly. Thus, the present results suggestedthatα-adrenergic activity constricted small coronary arteries predominantly.
