Abstract: This paper briefly discusses the fundamental concepts of cotton field ecosystem and illustrates the formation and succession of this ecosystem and the growth and decline patterns of pests. Based on the natural environmental characteristics of cotton planting area in Pengze County, three ecotypes are classified: 1. That of cotton field in plain area along rivers, 2. That of cotton field in hilly area of south-central part, and 3. That of cotton field in hilly and mountainous area of south-eastern part. The physiographic faunae of pests in various ecotypes and the influence of ecological factors on the genesis of pests are also discussed.
