Abstract: GlyA gene is present in many organisms. Serine hydr oxymethyltransferase(SHMT), encoded by glyA gene, catalyzes the conversion o f serine and tetrahydrofolate to glycine and 5,10-methylenetetrahydrofolate. A m ajor function of this reaction is to generate the one-carbon units involved in t he numerous methylation reaction that occur within the cell. Therefore, it is he lpful to study glyA gene and serine hydroxymethyltransferase. This pap er primarily reviews cloning and nucleotide sequence anal ysis and regular compo nent of glyA gene, partial characteristics of serine h ydroxymethyltransferase.
