Abstract: In this paper, we examined the sliding wear characteristies of a ductile iron austempered to austenite upper bainite and lower bainite and steel with same composition and structure as the matrix of the ductile iron. The experimental results show that under certain conditions, the graphite in austempered ductile iron is not favorable for wear resistance. Because the transition load of the ductile iron with austenite upper bainite is increased with wear spped. And when the rotating speed is 980r/min and the load is larger than 68.6 N, the wear resistance of austempered ductile iron is superior to that of steel.
