Abstract: Macrosiphum gobonis Matsumura is a serious pest of the Carthamus plants. Theflower of Carthamus tinctorius L. is used in Chinese medicine. Under the natural conditions of Heilongjiang Province, the aphids live on Carthamusplants from June 10th (average air temperature about 19℃) to September 10th (about16℃). The maximum population density of this pest usually prevails in the period ofJuly 20th to August 10th (about 22--26℃). When the average air temperature is below15℃, the pests leave the host plants, some of them hibernate in the soil and the othersmigrate to the leaves of Arctium lappa L. and hibernate. The present paper deals with the effects of temperature, humidity and other en-vironmental conditions on the population density of the pest. The preventive measuresof this pest are also discussed.
