Abstract: In rats the effect of bovine pancreatic polypeptide(BPP)on the external pan-creatic secretion induced by peptone and caerulein were observed. At 90 min afteradministration of 25% peptone into duodenum, the protein output in the controlgroup was about 10-folds of its basal secretion. In the groups treated with dosesof 1,3,5 and 10 μg/kg BPP,the protein outputs were decreased respectively to 47%,33%,29% and 29% of the control. At 60 min after infusion of caerulein withdose of 3μg/kg,the protein output in the control group was 14-folds of its basalsecretion. This decreased rcspectively to 74%,68% and 55% of the control valuein groups treated with doses of 3,5 and 10 μg/kg BPP.The variations ofpancreatic amylase concentrations of all groups were parallel to those of theirprotein outputs. The increases of pancreatic volume were not affected by BPP.The results suggest that BPP may play an inhibitory role in the secretion ofpancreatic enzyme, and shows a dose-dependent relationship.
