Abstract: A growth factor for vascular endothelial cells was identified in 1989 in the media conditioned by bovine pituitary follicular cells. Up to now 6 different species of VEGF isoforms have been discovered including VEGF121,VEGF145,VEGF165,VEGF183,VEGF189,and VEGF206. Two classes of high affinity VEGF-binding receptors have identified which are Flt-1(Fms-like tyrosine kinase) and KDR (Kinase domain region). This article emphasizes two aspects of VEGF application. In one hand inhibiting of VEGF action in pathological angiogenesis, and the other hand its therapeutic approach inducing angogenesis.
