Abstract: A new round of economic restructuring in Shanxi got rolling in October, 1999, when the new leadership of the provincial Party committee and the provincial government just resumed their office a mere three months earlier. And for the past three years, under the great care of the Party central committee and the State Council, helped and supported by various ministries and bureaus under the central government, Shanxi Party committee and its government have made a correct assessment of macroeconomic situation and led its 32 million population---from higher officials down to the ranks and files---in knuckling down to the strategic reorientation of its economic structure. Now they have reached the target of making the first steady step in 2000, striding up the road in 2001 and witnessing initial results in 2002.
