Abstract: The first phase of Fenhe River Park(6kilometersbeginningat155metersupstreamfromthe VictoryBridge and endingat125meters downstream beyondthe SouthernRingBridge)was built between October1998and September2000.Withan investmentof560millionyuan,the Fenhe RiverPark is concurrentlya water-retainingproject to beautifythe Fenhe Riversectionthat flowsthroughthe cityproper.A concrete wall builtinto the excavated riverbed dividesthe riverintotwo channels:on the east side is the220-meter-wide channel of clear water with4rubber dams to store the water at three levels while on the west the80-meter-wide channel for muddy water to drain the upstream floodwateror channel water for irrigation.Additionallythe Fenhe River Park is the largest and most concentrated green belt for public recreation.
