Difference of the effects of long-term endurance exercise on nitric oxide and GSH and MDA level between in the cardiac muscle and in the gastrocnemius muscle

Abstract: Objective:To analyze the possible difference of the effects of the endurance exercise on the level of the nitric oxide(NO),glutathion(GSH) and oxidative stress between in the cardiac muscle and in the gastrocnemius muscle(GAST).Methods: The SD female rats were randomly divided into two groups: an excise group(n=10) and a sedentary group(n=10).The rats in the exercise group swam for three months.At the end of the experimental period(3 months),the rats were killed and then the cardiac muscle and the GAST were remove to analyze the contents of NO,GSH and malonaldehyde(MDA). Results: Compared with the sedentary group,the NO contents of the excise group was increased significantly in the GAST(P<0.01),but not in the cardiac muscle;the GSH contents of the excise group was decreased significantly in the GAST(P<0.05),but not in the cardiac muscle;the MDA level of the excise group was increased significantly in the cardiac muscle(P<0.05),but not in the GAST. Conclusion: The NO,GSH and oxidative stress have a different adaptive response to the long-term endurance exercise between in the cardiac muscle and in the GAST.During long-term endurance exercise,the lipid peroxidation reaction to exercise can be stronger in the cardiac muscle than in GAST,and the GSH may play an important role in the GAST through its consumption.
