Abstract: Objective To study the relationship of pelvic inflammatory disease(PID) with ureaplasma urealyticum(Uu) and its biovar Methods Uu was detected by the method of Polymerase Chain Reaction(PCR) from 14 serotypes of Uu standard strains and 100 samples of cervical discharges from PID patients were examined in comparison with the control Result Detected by PCR,the fragment length amplified products from parvo biovar was 403bp,while that from T 960 biovar was 448bp In the cases of PID,the positive rate of Uu was 34% Among them, parvo biovar was 9%,while T 960 biovar was 26%,and the coinfection rate of two biovars was 1%;In the healthy controls, the positive rate of Uu was 13% Among them 10% was for parvo biovar and 3% for T 960 biovar Conclusion Uu is an important factor in the formation of PID,and there is a distinct correlation between T 960 biovar and PID
