Abstract: Objective Injuries of the articular cartilage penetrated the subchondral bone were repaired by the bone-marrow cells and the growth factor. Methods The mixture of collagen gel and marrow cells, partly with some growth factor, was implanted into the experimental defects of articular cartilage in rabbit knees. Results The reparative tissure in the defects belongs to hyaline cartilage with smooth surface and with good cancellous bone at the base. The reparative tissue appeared better with the use of the growth factor (bFGF).The reparation of defect was not complete in the group after simple drilling. The nature of reparative tissue was fibrous tissue. Conclusion The bone-marrow-derived mesenchymal cells with the protection by the collagen gel carrier can differentiate into the chondrocytes in the special micro-circumstances of joint and the defect may be repaired.
