Abstract: A Ring box homologous gene, AmphiRbx 1, was identified in amphioxus ( Branchiostoma belcheri). Sequence charac-teristics, phylogenetic analysis and expression pattern during embryonic development and in adults were determined. The putative protein sequence of AmphiRbx 1 showed high identity with its homologues in vertebrates and invertebrates. The gene expression was determined by in situ hybridization and RT-PCR. AmphiRbxl transcripts were detected in all developmental stages and showed predominant expression in the cleavage stage in embryos and in tissues with high division activity. These results suggest that Rbxl homologues are evolutionarily conserved and AmphiRbx 1 may play a role in cell division.
