Research on three-dimensional soil arching effect between cantilever anti-slide piles

Abstract: The forming mechanism of soil arching effect between cantilever anti-slide piles is studied based on their forced characteristics.Comparing with embedded piles,the soil arching effect between cantilever piles may be divided into three categories such as level arch,vertical arch and free air arch,moreover,the effect of the level arch is the most critical to soil stability among them.In order to account the arching effect,it is suggested that the wave of σx should be considered to substitute for the ratio of loads on the pile and soil.The contrast between 2D and 3D calculations is made by establishing 3D-FEM.The influence from the geostatic stress(couldn't) be ignored,because there is the remarkable dimensional feature in the arching effect of cantilever piles.Some relationships between the arching effect and parameters such as cantilever height,pile spacing,face width,superload and shear strength of soil are emphatically studied.
